Background Information

The Quad 66 Tuner, part of Quad’s highly regarded 66 series, embodies the design philosophy of simplicity and precision. Quad is known for its attention to detail and focus on sound quality. The chassis is robust and timeless, designed to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The internal components are carefully selected for their reliability and sound quality. Although the specific names of engineers are not often mentioned, Quad remains true to its British heritage in both design and manufacturing, using high-quality materials that are precision-engineered.

Brand History

Quad was founded in 1936 by Peter Walker in England. The company introduced its first loudspeaker, the “Corner Ribbon,” in 1949. This loudspeaker used a ribbon technology to produce high frequencies, which provided clear reproduction of treble. In the 1950s, Quad introduced the Electrostatic Loudspeaker (ESL), which was a milestone in the development of loudspeaker technology. The ESL was known for its full-range electrostatic technology, which provided unprecedented natural sound.

Quad has since released several models and series, including the Z Series. This model uses a specially designed sandwich construction in the ribbon tweeters for higher sensitivity and accuracy. The brand continues to develop its products while staying true to Peter Walker’s original philosophy of staying as close to the original sound as possible.
