Linn and its streamers: always good. Point! The Majik is their entry level, but plays at a much higher level than, say, the Bluesound. Very detailed, with a deep and wide stage. The Linn Majik DS/0 is a network player designed and built in Scotland by Linn Products. It is part of the Majik series and uses Linn's proprietary Klimax-level DAC technology. The unit uses carefully selected components, with internally balanced circuits for minimal interference. The solid aluminum housing shields electromagnetic noise. Linn develops and manufactures almost all components in-house in Scotland according to their "source-first" philosophy.

Linn was founded in 1973 by Ivor Tiefenbrun. It started with the production of the Sondek LP12, a turntable that was continuously improved in the following years. In 1986, Linn released the Troika cartridge, which provided improved signal reproduction. Optical input, interference-free and therefore proven to be the better option with some dacs, although they are often limiting in bitrate (yet there are dacs that let in up to 24 bit/192 kHz). The cable used is hugely important we can report, we'd be happy to let you assess these differences.

SPDIF is the abbreviation for Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format. (Nice that we, as a small country, have had influence there!) It is a standard for the transmission of a digital signal between, for example, a streamer or CD drive to dac. The cable used makes quite a difference in playback. A standard cable shows mostly a messy and abundant low, and the middle and high sludge into a mess. There are many who dispute this. Be skeptical, but there has to be a time for evaluation.

De Compact Disc (CD) kwam zoals de meeste uitvindingen niet uit de lucht vallen. Na de uitvinding van de laser in 1958 werd in 1961 het eerste octrooi voor optisch leesbare schijven ingediend. In 1972 werden de eerste digitale videoplaten geïntroduceerd. Na een flop van Philips kwam de fabrikant in 1979 samen met Sony met de eerste cd, wat erop stond weten wij niet maar in 1982 kwam de eerste cd voor de markt uit, het was het album Visitors van ABBA. In dit jaar kwam de eerste speler beschikbaar en zo begon de verdrijving van de lp uit de markt. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen. Heb je cd’s, geniet er vooral nog eens van, ze hebben immers geen oneindige levensduur.
