Mark Levinson was founded in 1972 in the United States. The brand was named after its founder, Mark Levinson, who had a background as a musician and sound engineer. Its first commercial introduction was the LNP-2 preamplifier, designed for professional applications. Other devices followed later, including amplifiers and processors. In 1980, the brand was acquired by Madrigal Audio Laboratories, after which further product development continued. Since 1999, Mark Levinson has been part of Harman International Industries. The brand first introduced an audio system for use in a vehicle in 2001, in partnership with Lexus. All products are designed with an emphasis on technical specifications and workmanship. Production takes place in the United States using selected components.
