Bowers & Wilkins, founded in 1966 by John Bowers and Roy Wilkins, began in the English town of Worthing. The company grew out of Bowers’ passion for sound engineering, which he developed while working in an electronics store. John Bowers was a perfectionist with a strong commitment to acoustic precision. In the years that followed, the company grew under Bowers’ leadership, playing a central role until his death in 1987. The focus was on research and development, with the team bringing innovations in sound reproduction technology. After Bowers’ death, the company took new directions under different owners.
