Questions & Answers

What features do the Uni-Q driver and the ABRs offer in the KEF Q750?

The Uni-Q driver places the tweeter at the center of the midrange cone for a point-source sound; the two passive Auxiliary Bass Radiators (ABRs) deliver extra-deep, tight bass.

How are volume and sound quality affected by the recommended amplifier power?

The Q750 performs optimally with an amplifier rated between approximately 15 and 150 watts per channel; lower power may result in reduced dynamics, while higher power allows the speaker to perform at its best without distortion.

Is there a crossover frequency between the tweeter module and the midrange in the Uni-Q driver?

Yes, the crossover is around 2.5 kHz between the tweeter and the midrange section within the Uni-Q array.

How are the speakers connected to an amplifier?

The Q750 has binding posts on the back where speaker cables with banana plugs, spade connectors, or bare wires can be connected.

Do the KEF Q750 support wireless connections such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi?

No, these are passive floor-standing speakers without built-in wireless modules; wireless streaming requires an external receiver or preamp.

How should the speakers be positioned in the room to achieve optimal sound?

Place the Q750 at least 20–30 cm away from back walls for better bass response, and ideally symmetrically relative to the listening position for a balanced stereo image.

What happens if the speakers are placed close to a wall or in a corner?

If the Q750 is placed too close to a wall or in a corner, the bass becomes distorted or exaggerated; use the ABR-enabled design to maintain controlled bass by leaving some space.

Are the removable magnetic grilles included, and how do they affect the sound?

Magnetic shields are available as an option; when installed, they are acoustically transparent and have little effect on the sound.

What is the speaker’s nominal impedance, and what does that mean for choosing an amplifier?

The nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with a minimum of approximately 3.8 ohms during peaks; amplifiers must be capable of delivering sufficient current to handle this dynamic range.

Can the Q750s be used as a center channel in a home theater setup?

No, the Q750s are floor-standing stereo speakers; for the center channel, there is the separate Q650C center speaker, which is timbre-matched to the Q750.

Reviews & awards | KEF Q750

SoundStage! – Hans Wetzel

states that the KEF Q750 is “one of the most neutral transducers I’ve ever heard” and praises the speakers for their stunning transparency; he compares their sound to the much more expensive KEF R700s and finds that above 45 Hz, the sound quality is virtually identical.

SoundStage! – The Cheaper the Better, Revisited

notes that the build quality and cabinet of the Q750 aren’t particularly impressive, especially in earlier demo units, but emphasizes that this is more than compensated for by the sound: extremely balanced, with very extended high-frequency response, excellent holography, and impressive separation of sound images.

FWD.nl – Jamie Biesemans

describes the Q750 for home theater use as speakers with a distinct surround sound image and pinpoint accuracy, thanks largely to the Uni-Q drivers; the low frequencies are present, providing a bass foundation without overpowering the sound, but he recommends using a subwoofer for movies to add extra impact.

Audio Gurus

states that the Q750 offers a “powerful and immersive soundstage,” with a warm tone and plenty of detail, and that they can play loudly without distorting; for movies, they recommend adding a subwoofer, while for music, they consider the bass sufficient depending on the room.

Hi-Fi Class (Test conducted in Poland)

praises the Q750 for its “full, clean bass reproduction” in rooms measuring 20–30 m², where the bass is tight and well-defined without interfering with the midrange and treble; they consider the Q750 one of the best full-range speakers in terms of value for money.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
