Questions & Answers

What features does the RoomPerfect™ room correction system in the Lyngdorf DPA-1 offer?

RoomPerfect™ measures the acoustics at various listening positions and creates both Focus and Global filters to optimize the frequency response and impulse response in the listening room.

How do you adjust the output level of the Line Out?

Using the “Line Out Level” menu, you can adjust the level in increments of −0.1 dB, with a maximum volume setting and a minimum of −40 dB.

Can the high-pass filter be applied to the Main output?

Yes. In the Routing menu, you can set a high-pass filter for the Main output, which filters out frequencies below the selected crossover frequency.

How do you connect the DPA-1 to multiple analog sources?

There are four analog inputs: three unbalanced RCA pairs and one balanced XLR pair, which can be selected using the Input button (on the front panel or remote control).

What digital inputs are available, and how do you select one?

The DPA-1 has three coaxial S/PDIF inputs (Digital 1–3 via RCA), one balanced AES input, and one optical Toslink input; pressing the “Digital” button followed by the numeric buttons 1–5 selects the desired digital input.

Is it possible to update the firmware on the Lyngdorf DPA-1, and how does that work?

Yes, you can update the firmware of the DPA-1 and the RoomPerfect module using the “Lyngdorf Audio – Serial Load” PC software.

What does “Trigger-Out” mean, and what is it used for?

The Trigger Output is a short-circuit-proof 12 V DC output via a 3.5 mm mono jack, designed to drive external equipment such as speaker amplifiers or active subwoofers when the DPA-1 is turned on.

How do you set the crossover frequency for subwoofers?

In the Routing menu, the crossover frequency can be set between 40 and 9999 Hz, depending on the filter type and outputs (Main and/or Line) being used.

What control options does the DPA-1 remote control offer?

The remote control includes all front-panel buttons except the power switch, including input selection (Analog/Digital), Volume, Mute, menu navigation, and Focus/Global filter selection.

How do you configure the DPA-1 as Master versus Slave in a daisy-chain setup?

Via the “Advanced Setup → Master/Slave” menu, the DPA-1 can be set as Master, which provides control over connected devices via Trigger Out or RS-232; by default, it is set as Slave.

Reviews & awards | Lyngdorf DPA-1

Testberichte.de (AUDIO / stereoplay 2009)

Summary: The Lyngdorf DPA-1 is praised as a reference-class product with 110 points (“outstanding”) and named a “Top Pick.” The review notes that the device requires a bit of a learning curve for the user, but once mastered, it offers flexible customization options alongside unprecedented precision in sound.

Stereotimes

Summary: The DPA-1 is described as a digital preamplifier with RoomPerfect room correction, an excellent DAC, and a programmable digital bass crossover (with a choice of filter types such as Butterworth and Linkwitz-Riley). The reviewer emphasizes that the sound is “very sweet and smooth” and that the unit delivers more bass than expected; it is also noted that the “Neutral” voicing may be slightly boosted in the low end to simulate the effect of room correction.

HiFi.nl (Ruud Jonker, May 1, 2010)

Summary: Here, the DPA-1 is viewed as a digital room corrector that represents a relatively significant investment but delivers a considerable improvement in sound quality in systems with limited acoustics. The conclusion is that acoustics account for 80% of an audio system’s performance and that the DPA-1, when used properly, can largely bridge that gap.

AVMentor (Dimitris Stamatakos)

Summary: The DPA-1 offers great versatility, proves to be very musical, and is particularly impressive in its spatial sound staging—more detail, a more spacious listening experience. The reviewer particularly appreciates the digital inputs: there is hardly any noticeable difference between the analog and digital signal paths. It is also noted that RoomPerfect can dramatically reduce the effects of room acoustics, provided that measurements are taken carefully.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
