General description
The Meridian Sooloos MS200 is a hi-fi media player that manages and streams your music collection with refined sound quality. The Meridian Sooloos MS200 acts as a digital music librarian, allowing you to experience a clear stereo image regardless of the source. This digital streamer delivers a sound reproduction that emphasizes detail and nuance, so you can hear each instrument distinctly and appreciate the significance of every moment of silence.
The sound of the Meridian Sooloos MS200 is rich and balanced: it faithfully reproduces both the dynamics of high-energy tracks and the subtleties of soft passages. The sound reproduction offers transparency where atmosphere and resolution come together. Use the streamer to explore entire albums, create playlists, or effortlessly integrate live sources into your listening setup. Thanks to the way the Meridian Sooloos MS200 processes signals, the listening experience remains coherent, with clear midrange, open highs, and a solid bass without exaggeration.

Brand history
Meridian Audio, based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, was founded in 1977 by John Robert Stuart and Allen Boothroyd. Since the company’s founding, all Meridian products have been built in the United Kingdom. It was the first British company to produce a CD player in 1983. The Meridian MCD, launched in 1985, was the first audiophile CD player on the market. Meridian also created the first digital surround sound processor, the 565 in 1994, as well as the first DSP-based digital active speakers. We have had these speakers regularly and they sound very smooth and quiet. No unnecessary spectacle, but absolute quietness in the reproduction.

Reviews & awards | Meridian Sooloos MS200

Hi-Fi Advice

: The Meridian Sooloos MS200 has a classic, understated look, but features a technically sophisticated finish. The enclosure is elegant, compact, and feels very high-quality. With outputs via mini-jack (analog and optical digital) and SpeakerLink, it offers a limited but purpose-built set of connections. In terms of sound quality, the digital optical output from the MS200 delivers an open, airy, and fluid sound with excellent bass reproduction, though with slightly less detail than the more expensive Meridian 818 in native network mode. The analog output is fine, but lacks some dynamics and power, especially in the low end.

ResidentialSystems.com

: The MS200 delivers excellent sound quality, especially considering its price. It features a sleek and compact metal design, easy installation, good compatibility with external DACs, and a user interface that handles large music libraries with great elegance. The downside is that 192/24 files are downconverted to 96/24, which purists view as a drawback. Control via apps works well; IR control is considered functional but rarely used.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
