Description

Description Freakuence!
Beautiful! These Italian pieces of furniture. A transparent speaker with the feeling of warmth from the Sonus Faber-history. They have partly left that warmth behind, this is especially noticeable in the highs, here they go much further than some years ago, because of this a lot of space and addition to the midrange, which has become more neutral. But people! It’s still a Sonus Faber, with a lot of feeling for warm wood tones.
Retail price: 2200.00
General description
This is a 3-way floorstanding speaker with a bass reflex design. The tweeter is 29 mm in diameter and uses DAD™ technology. The midrange driver and the two bass drivers are each 150 mm in diameter and feature paper cones. The transient frequencies are at 350 Hz and 3500 Hz, ensuring balanced sound reproduction. The frequency range extends from 40 Hz to 24,000 Hz, with a sensitivity of 89 dB SPL (2.83V/1m). The nominal impedance is 4 Ohms, and the recommended amplifier power is between 50W and 250W. The loudspeaker is equipped with four terminals, allowing bi-wiring, and comes with iron spikes for decoupling. Dimensions are 989mm high, 228mm wide and 277mm deep, weighing 15.9kg each.
Background information
The Sonus Faber Lumina III is designed according to designer Livio Cucuzza’s “luxury minimalism” principle. The speaker combines a multi-layered wood front panel with real wood veneer and an MDF enclosure for an optimal balance of acoustics and aesthetics. Internal wiring is Sonus Faber’s own brand, carefully selected for minimal signal contamination. Drivers are partly developed in-house, such as the DAD tweeter with silk dome and attenuator.
Brand history
Sonus faber was founded in 1983 in Vicenza, Italy. The company was founded by Franco Serblin, with a focus on developing high-quality speakers. The name Sonus faber means “maker of sound,” referring to the artisanal nature of their products. The brand is known for its meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail, combining materials such as wood and leather. Sonus faber stays true to its Italian heritage and maintains a manufacturing process that emphasizes craftsmanship and aesthetics. The brand has received worldwide recognition for its loudspeakers.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
