Sometimes stereo just isn’t enough. Sometimes you want sound in the center, on the left, on the right, behind you, and maybe even something that makes the floor vibrate. Movies, concerts, games. That’s when you naturally find yourself in surround sound territory.
Here you’ll find surround sound amplifiers for home theater setups that require more than two channels. New or used, ranging from practical all-around receivers to more serious systems for full multichannel setups.
Surround sound amplifiers for home theater and multichannel audio
The heart of your home theater setup
While a stereo amplifier focuses on two channels, a surround sound amplifier is designed to drive many more channels at once: front speakers, a center speaker, surround speakers, a subwoofer, and sometimes even additional height channels. It all comes together here. For movies, TV shows, concert recordings, and gaming, a surround sound amplifier serves as the centerpiece of the entire audio-video setup. Audio processing, source selection, amplification, and often video functionality are all combined into a single device. If you’re serious about home theater, you’ll naturally end up here.
What does a surround sound amplifier do?
A surround sound amplifier processes multichannel audio and drives multiple speakers in a surround sound setup. Depending on the model, this can be a classic 5.1 configuration or a more extensive setup with additional channels. Here are some of the things you’ll find:
AV receivers for home theater applications
Surround sound amplifiers for 5.1 and 7.1 setups
models with network and streaming capabilities
Used surround sound receivers for existing systems
Some systems are purely practical. Others are designed for people who take their home theater setup seriously.
Why choose a surround sound amplifier?
As soon as video and audio come together, what you expect from an amplifier changes.Advantages of surround sound amplifiers:
control of multiple speakers within a single system
Support for home theater and multichannel audio
centralized control of audio and video sources
Integration of streaming and digital features in many models
expansion toward more comprehensive surround sound configurations
For those who mainly watch movies or take gaming seriously, this is often simply the logical choice.
New and Used Surround Sound Amplifiers
Surround sound equipment is evolving rapidly, especially in terms of connections, video formats, and digital features. At the same time, many commonly used models remain appealing to those who are building a specific setup or looking for a practical addition. Our selection is constantly changing. Sometimes we have a modern AV receiver in stock with all the latest features. Other times, we get a used surround sound amplifier that’s still a perfect fit for the right setup. As is often the case: sometimes you’re looking for something very specific, and sometimes you come across exactly what you needed.
What should you look for when choosing a surround sound amplifier?
Not every surround sound amplifier is automatically compatible with every setup.Key points to note:
number of amplified channels
Compatibility with your speakers
HDMI and other connection options
support for audio and video formats
streaming and networking capabilities
ease of use and configuration options
A surround sound system only works really well when everything works together seamlessly.
Why browse our selection of surround sound amplifiers?
Because home theater often starts with a plan and ends up being something completely different.Sometimes you’re looking for a receiver with very specific features. Other times, something comes along that suddenly makes a surround sound upgrade a lot more appealing. Whether new or used, amplifiers regularly pop up here that immediately get movie and audio fans excited.
CD
The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
Our playlist runs at full speed every day. Filled with everything, from the usual audiophile tracks to poorly recorded classics from the past, from a special Scandinavian chamber choir to hard Dutch hardcore. Enjoy it as we enjoy it too. Here are the links to the Freaklist! on Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify.
Once inside you forget outside, relaxation is the starting point. Sit down and play the music you like at the desired volume. Don't procrastinate, ask questions. Need a listening break, walk to the bar, grab a drink and start a game of pool.

Describing all daily listening sessions is not feasible, but highlighting one every now and then is of course fun to do and hopefully also fun to read. Several times a day, new combinations arise here from what visitors request or what we think has a chance. Read our experiences here.

We are having a great time with all the audio and we can share that feeling with most visitors. Yet sometimes there are companions who have no interest in it at all. Audio can be stolen from them. We also like to make those genes happy.
