Arcam expanded its range in 1986 with the first CD player designed and manufactured entirely in the UK. In 1988, Arcam released the Black Box, one of the first stand-alone DACs (Digital to Analogue Converter) for CD playback. In the 1990s, Arcam introduced the Xeta 1, the first AV amplifier for audiophiles, and developed the world's first DAB tuner for home use in 1999.
