Background Information
AudioQuest Diamond Digital Coax is a premium audio cable designed for maximum signal integrity. The cable utilizes solid silver conductors, ensuring unparalleled clarity and low internal distortion. The advanced 3-layer Noise-Dissipation System eliminates RF interference, and the carbon-based 6-layer noise-dissipation ensures interference-free signal transmission. The precision-crafted plugs are cold-welded and gold-plated, ensuring an optimal connection. AudioQuest’s designers strive for simplicity and pure signal transmission, selecting high-quality materials that have been optimized in-house.
Brand History
AudioQuest was founded in 1980 by William E. Low in California, United States. The brand began by hand assembling cables according to specific design methods based on minimizing distortion. AudioQuest has since developed a product line that includes interlink cables, speaker cables, digital and network cables, mains products and portable accessories. The company has stuck to the use of directional cables and solid core conductors from the beginning. In 2012, AudioQuest introduced the DragonFly, a USB DAC. Product development takes place in the United States, while some manufacturing is done in China and elsewhere. AudioQuest applies a philosophy where material selection, geometry and finish have a direct impact on cable performance.

Questions & Answers

How does the 100 cm AudioQuest Diamond digital coaxial cable perform in terms of signal quality?

The cable uses high-purity OFHC copper with Air-Tube geometry, offering low capacitance and low jitter, which results in a clearer digital signal.

How does this coaxial cable connect devices with different impedances?

The AudioQuest Diamond coaxial cable is designed for standard 75 Ω digital coaxial applications and performs optimally with equipment that supports 75 Ω coaxial digital inputs and outputs.

Does this cable work with both SPDIF and AES/EBU digital protocols?

No, this cable is specifically designed for the SPDIF/coaxial digital standard; AES/EBU typically uses XLR connectors and 110 Ω impedance, which is not compatible.

How should the cable be installed to minimize interference?

Do not run the cable parallel to power cables; use short runs and minimize cable bundling; and ensure that the connectors are securely fastened without putting any tension on the cable.

Can a length of 100 cm affect signal quality?

At 100 cm, the quality remains virtually unchanged; this is a short length that falls within the tolerances of digital coaxial transmission.

What connectors are present at both ends?

Both ends have RCA/coaxial digital SPDIF connectors with 75 Ω impedance, featuring gold-plated conductors for optimal signal transmission.

Is this cable suitable for use with D/A converters and high-resolution audio?

Yes, for audio formats up to, for example, 24-bit/192 kHz and sometimes even higher, provided that the equipment and signal path support this.

Does the cable provide protection against electromagnetic interference and noise?

Yes, the construction with metal shielding and the air-insulated core helps reduce electromagnetic interference and limit noise.

Does this cable come with a warranty or certification for specific standards?

AudioQuest typically offers a lifetime warranty on workmanship and materials; the cable meets the standard specifications for 75 Ω coaxial digital SPDIF connections.

How does this Diamond version differ from other AudioQuest digital coaxial cables (e.g., Carbon or Forest)?

The Diamond uses more durable materials, improved insulation, and lower capacitance than entry-level models such as Carbon or Forest, resulting in greater detail and less jitter.

Reviews & awards | AudioQuest Diamond Digital Coaxial Cable, 100 cm

The Audio Tailor

: In its September 7, 2025, review, The Audio Tailor notes that the Diamond Coax interconnect uses 100% Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) conductors and a Carbon-6-Layer Noise-Dissipation system, along with a 72 V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS), resulting in “unprecedented clarity, stupendous dynamic contrast, and virtually no harshness.”

AudioAdvisor / futurShop UK

: A user with the 3-meter version says: “The whole system sounded right, from the very first note. The soundstage was excellent, along with the instruments and textures … this cable is very expensive but worth every penny … Give this diamond cable a listen. You won’t be disappointed.”

HiFiVision (forum)

: Someone compares the Diamond coax to other AudioQuest digital cables and concludes: “In my experience, Diamond is definitely better… worth the money if you have a high-resolution system.”

HiFi-Advice

: In a review of the Mad Scientist Heretical digital cable, the AudioQuest Diamond USB cable is cited as a reference: Compared to standard RG59 coax, it sounds fuller in the low frequencies and airier in the high frequencies, making the standard coax “less transparent and less airy than when using an AudioQuest Diamond USB cable (600+ euros).”

Head-Fi.org

: A comparison of digital interconnects such as the Nordost Valhalla 2, AQ Diamond, AQ WEL, and Transparent Reference XL reveals that the Diamond delivers detail in the midrange and high frequencies with just enough clarity without causing fatigue; the distinction in organ crescendos is particularly impressive due to the separation of notes and harmonies.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
