Elac was founded on Sept. 1, 1926, in Kiel, Germany, as Electroacustic GmbH. The company initially focused on developing sonar and communication technology for air and water. In 1948, Elac introduced its first consumer product, the PW1 record player, marking the beginning of their focus on audio technology. During the 1950s and 1960s, the company's developments included the patented electro-magnetic pickup, which led to the introduction of Moving Magnet cartridges. In the 1980s, Elac began producing loudspeakers, including the famous 4Pi omnidirectional tweeter.
