The products are built to the high standards Scandinavian manufacturers are known for. Guru speakers are designed to be placed close to or against the rear wall and take advantage of the characteristics of the room to achieve high sensitivity and bass extension. They have low phase distortion and create a sweet field rather than a sweet spot, allowing multiple people in the room to enjoy the sound reproduction. The speakers maintain the correct sound image height whether the listener is sitting or standing.

What about the Guru 12’s impedance, and what does that mean for compatibility with amplifiers?

The nominal impedance is 5 ohms, with a minimum impedance of around 4 ohms; amplifiers must be rated for lower impedances to ensure safe operation.

How do you properly set up the Guru 12?

Place the Guru 12 on or against bookshelves or on special stands, ideally at ear level with a slight toe-in for a wider stereo image.

Is the Guru 12 active or passive, and what does that mean for the connection?

You can make a monitor speaker (bookshelf model) sound fantastic. The influence of the amplifier is often underestimated. A monitor won’t sound like a floorstanding speaker… but you can extract an enormous sense of grandeur from it. It’s not just the size that makes audiophiles choose a monitor; the timing of a two-way system also ensures that there are hordes of enthusiasts who wouldn’t even consider a three-way floorstanding speaker. It’s a matter of taste! So please stop by for a comparison.

Reviews & awards | Guru 12

HiFi.nl – “Guru 12 Speaker: Compact Mini-Monitor with Maxi-Performance”

Summary: The reviewer praises the Guru 12 for its impressive bass response relative to its size, balanced and transparent sound, and excellent sense of space and dynamics. He does note, however, that the Guru 12 doesn’t pair as well with a tube amplifier; when paired with a Class-D amplifier, the sound was more balanced.

RB Acoustique & HF – “Test of the GURU 12 & 28 Speakers”

Summary: The Guru 12 remains harmonious across all registers, with subdued yet controlled bass that extends lower than expected for a bookshelf model; vocals are also reproduced with clarity and respect. The sound is refined enough with reference material, though some detail may be lost with lower-quality sources.

Audiophile.fr – “GURU 12: A bookshelf speaker that goes surprisingly low in the bass”

Summary: The manufacturer highlights the in-house production or supervision of critical components, reflecting Scandinavian build quality. A key advantage is that this compact speaker delivers a frequency range that starts low, around 28 Hz, without noticeable distortion, thanks in part to the polypropylene woofer and the Helmholtz resonator.

Stereoindex – “Guru 12 – a carefully thought-out combination of design and technology” (by Francis Adamiak)

Summary: Versatility is a plus: the Guru 12 performs well in various setups (on a bookshelf or on a stand near a wall) with its nominal impedance of approximately 5 Ω and sensitivity of approximately 88 dB. Bass response is described as fast and powerful thanks to the woofer’s lightweight polypropylene cone.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
