Reviews & awards | Guru 20

Stereophile

: At the unveiling of the Guru 20 at High End Munich 2025, it’s striking that this floor-standing model shares the same 6-inch mid/bass driver and 19 mm soft-dome tweeter as the Guru 12, but thanks to its larger enclosure, the Guru 20 offers “improved low-frequency extension” while maintaining clarity, precision, and balance. Stereophile reports a typical in-room response of 28 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83 V/1 m, and nominal impedance of 5 ohms (minimum 4 ohms).

Guru Loudspeakers (manufacturer)

: The manufacturer emphasizes that the Guru 20 is designed for discerning listeners, with the goal of creating a compact floorstanding speaker that, using the same advanced drivers as the Guru 12 but in a larger enclosure, delivers a deeper bass response. The specifications list a recommended amplifier power of 20 to 160 watts, a bass-reflex enclosure made of MDF and steel, placement close to the back wall (0–25 cm), and dimensions of 188 × 828 × 220 mm.

Audionation

: In a discussion about speaker placement and acoustics, it is noted that Guru models, including the 20, are designed to perform well in typical living rooms thanks to their “boundary gain” from the back wall. Guru recommends placing the speakers very close to the wall (as close as possible), using damping behind the speakers, positioning them so the tweeter is at ear level, and angling them slightly inward. According to reviewers, this approach contributes to impressive bass reproduction even with smaller drivers.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
