Description

Description of Freakuence!
The Great Guru! The 42 does everything the other models do, but so much more easily and smoothly. The dynamic range is wide: quiet passages are given plenty of space, while tracks with more drive and bass also sound fantastic.
General description
The Guru 42 loudspeaker is a floor-standing speaker from Guru Audio that delivers natural sound and impressive reproduction capabilities. This Guru 42 speaker produces a soundstage with a wide stereo image and rich detail, allowing musical nuances to be heard clearly. Thanks to its floor-standing design, you’ll experience powerful dynamics and balanced bass without the midrange becoming muddled.
As a floor-standing speaker with carefully tuned drivers, the Guru 42 offers a refined balance between bass, midrange, and treble. The audio system delivers a warm yet precise tonal quality, with a stereo image that appears both wide and deep. The Guru 42 speaker stands out because it reveals the complexity in music—from subtle harmonies to strong accents—unlike many speakers in its class.
The Guru 42 speaker is ideal for listening rooms where detail, depth, and dynamics come together. The sound remains compelling at a wide range of volumes, without distortion or loss of clarity. The system gives music the space to breathe, reveal surprises, and make an impression.
Would you like to experience the Guru 42 loudspeaker for yourself? Schedule a listening session in our in-store listening room or compare the Guru 42 with other floor-standing speakers. You can also discuss a trade-in, with no obligation, to see what the Guru 42 can do for your system.
Background Information
The Guru 42 was designed with a philosophy that embraces simplicity and precision. Engineer Ingvar Öhman and his team ensured optimal sound quality by using Scandinavian birch wood for the cabinet, which provides natural resonance. The internal wiring and components are of high quality, selected to ensure purity in the sound. All materials come from local, sustainable sources, contributing to an environmentally friendly production process. The manufacturing methods combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, resulting in a speaker that excels both aesthetically and functionally.
Brand History
Guru is a Swedish company based in Stockholm. It designs and manufactures loudspeakers, with all critical components manufactured in-house or under close supervision in Europe. The products are built to the high standards Scandinavian manufacturers are known for. Guru speakers are designed to be placed close to or against the rear wall and take advantage of the characteristics of the room to achieve high sensitivity and bass extension. They have low phase distortion and create a sweet field rather than a sweet spot, allowing multiple people in the room to enjoy the sound reproduction. The speakers maintain the correct sound image height whether the listener is sitting or standing.

What is the recommended power per channel for the Guru 42?

An amplifier with a power output between 60 W and 300 W RMS is suitable for the Guru 42.

What is the impedance of the Guru 42, and how does it respond to low impedances?

The nominal impedance is 5 ohms, with a minimum impedance of around 4 ohms, which indicates that it should be compatible with amplifiers that operate stably at 4–8 ohms.

What is the best way to position the Guru 42 in the room?

Reviews & awards | Guru 42

Ljud & Bild (Sweden)

states in its article “Guru 42 – the biggest yet” that the Guru 42 is Guru Audio’s first 3-way floorstanding speaker, featuring dual paper woofers in separate reflex enclosures and a forward-firing 6-inch polypropylene midrange driver. They praise the design for delivering deep, powerful bass and a natural soundstage that works well in typical living rooms. Specifications such as frequency response (25 Hz–30 kHz), sensitivity (89 dB), nominal impedance (5 ohms, minimum 4 ohms), and recommended amplifier power (60–500 W) are also listed.

Lyd & Billede (Denmark)

largely echoes this assessment, describing the Guru 42 as Guru Audio’s largest speaker to date, featuring the same technical elements: a 6-inch polypropylene midrange driver, a 19-mm soft-dome tweeter, two 6.3-inch paper woofers, with a crossover at 100 Hz. The review emphasizes that the speaker is designed for natural bass reproduction without compromising Guru’s signature sound in a home listening environment.

Lyd og Bilde (Norway)

In “Guru 42 – the greatest yet,” the company states that Guru Audio aims to build a speaker that excels in both depth and dynamics, with a focus on both direct and reflected sound to produce a compelling sound in typical living rooms. They also confirm the technical specifications from the Danish and Swedish reviews, including dimensions (213 × 868 × 339 mm), tweeter and woofer configuration, and placement considerations regarding wall distance.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
