General description
This amplifier offers an integrated approach to music experience with its unique features. With a power amplifier delivering 2×250 watts at 8 ohms, it offers powerful performance in a variety of situations. The Hegel H400 was designed under the direction of Bent Holter, founder and chief engineer of Hegel Music Systems. The integrated amplifier combines DualAmp technology with DualPower, for minimum distortion and maximum dynamics. It incorporates heavily specified power supplies, custom-made toroidal transformers and Hegel’s own SoundEngine technology. The cabinet is made of brushed aluminum, CNC-machined for extra rigidity and low resonance. The internal wiring is carefully chosen for optimal signal transparency and low noise.
Brand history
Hegel was founded in Norway in the late 1980s by Bent Holter. In his graduate project at Trondheim University of Technology, he developed a solution for reducing distortion in transistor amplifiers. This led to the technology that later became known as SoundEngine. In 1988, the name Hegel was first used for an amplifier. The company released several CD players and amplifiers in the 1990s. In 1996, the first fully balanced amplifier was introduced. Around 2004, the brand began developing DA converters. Later products featured networking capabilities to support digital music playback. Hegel exclusively markets its own electronics, developing both the circuit design and the necessary software itself. The company conducts international distribution of its products from Norway.

The Home Theater bypass or Passthrough is there for those genes who really want to enjoy stereo without having to disconnect the surround setup. The HT input receives the Front and Left signal coming from the pre-out of the home theater processor. In surround playback, the HT input acts as a direct pass-through to the power amplifiers, so only the volume control of the surround processor has any influence. Are we unclear again? It is a standard for the transmission of a digital signal between, for example, a streamer or CD drive to dac. The cable used makes quite a difference in playback. A standard cable shows mostly a messy and abundant low, and the middle and high sludge into a mess. There are many who dispute this. Be skeptical, but there has to be a time for evaluation.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
