Description

Description: Freakuence!
What a beast! It looks just like an integrated amplifier. Its size and weight can easily fool you. This is Michi, a Rotel—but a high-end one—a trend-setter because it spoils you. Just like that, off the cuff. This thing sounds absolutely spot-on, and the DAC is above average—it can’t be compared to most built-in DACs we’re familiar with.
General description
The Michi P5 S2 is a high-quality stereo preamplifier that plays a crucial role in optimizing your audio system. With advanced digital-to-analog converters (DACs) and a carefully designed power supply, the Michi P5 S2 delivers a clear and detailed soundstage.

The Michi P5 S2, developed by Rotel, is a paragon of luxury audio engineering. The design team, including Chief Engineer Daren Orth, focuses on sonic integrity and top-tier components. They utilize 17 independent power regulators and the very best ESS SABRE DACs for precise sound reproduction. The chassis is made of sturdy aluminum to minimize resonance. The internal wiring has been carefully selected for optimal signal transmission. Assembly takes place in Japan, using only the finest materials sourced worldwide to ensure the highest quality.
Brand History
Michi is a sub-brand of the Japanese company Rotel, introduced in the 1990s as a range of high-quality audio equipment. The original Michi products, such as the RHC-10 preamplifier and the RHB-10 power amplifier, were characterized by their silver finish and red-colored sides. This line was aimed primarily at the Japanese market, but soon found worldwide success due to its superior audio performance and use of classic Japanese rosewood side panels. After several years, production of the original Michi line was discontinued. In 2019, Rotel revived the Michi brand with the introduction of new models, including the P5 preamplifier, the S5 stereo power amplifier and the M8 monoblock power amplifier. The result of three years of development, these new products combine advanced technology with contemporary design, continuing the tradition of providing high-quality audio components.

Reviews & awards | Michi P5 Series 2

HomeTheaterHifi.com

: Here, the
Michi P5 Series 2
is praised as the most “accomplished preamp” the reviewer has ever used; the sound reproduction is extremely accurate and lets you hear the music exactly as intended, without any added coloration. The build is robust, the design is classy, with a beautiful front-panel finish and subtle cooling.

Hi-Fi News

: notes in its test report (Lab Report) that the P5 S2 features an ESS ES9028PRO DAC instead of the earlier AKM chip, with improved performance: a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 107.2 dB, minimal deviation in linearity of ±0.3 dB, and a slight increase in distortion at higher frequencies.

AudioHT (South Korea)

: emphasizes that the Series 2 version has received significant upgrades to the digital section, thanks to ESS ES9028PRO DAC chips (32-bit/768 kHz, 8-channel) and the use of high-quality components such as Wima capacitors. The sound is rich in detail, especially in the mid and high frequencies; the bass is slightly slower but is compensated for when paired with the S5 amplifier.

AV Magazine (Italy)

: This source highlights the redesign of both the audio circuits and the power supply in the P5 S2, and emphasizes that this upgrade results in more precise sound and an impressive, spacious soundstage.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
