Roksan was founded in 1985 by Tufan Hashemi and Touraj Moghaddam, both graduates of the University of London. The name "Roksan" is derived from Roxana, daughter of Persian King Darius, reflecting the founders' Persian background. In the same year, the company introduced the Xerxes turntable, followed by the Darius loudspeaker in 1986. In 1987, Roksan launched the Artemiz tonearm and the Shiraz cartridge. In 2016, Roksan was acquired by Monitor Audio, the British speaker manufacturer.
