Description

Description of Freakuence!
The smallest subwoofer in the series. A cute little box. But it packs a punch? The Gravis I surprises you when it opens up; it doesn’t roar, but builds subtlety rather than noise. It blends into your stereo system so seamlessly that you wonder if it’s even there… until you turn it off; then you miss the depth.
General description
The Sonus Faber GRAVIS I is an active subwoofer that adds deep bass to your audio system without overwhelming the rest of the soundstage. This Sonus Faber GRAVIS I subwoofer enriches the sound of your setup with a powerful and controlled reproduction of low frequencies, providing a solid foundation, a refined stereo image, and clearer detail in musical and cinematic passages. The GRAVIS I combines dynamics and nuance in a single component, with bass that is tightly controlled yet remains full and expressive.
The Sonus Faber GRAVIS I subwoofer stands out because it integrates seamlessly with bookshelf or floor-standing speakers without disrupting the balance between the midrange and bass. In listening rooms, the GRAVIS I truly shines when you’re looking for a richer percussion experience, a seamless transition between speakers and the subwoofer, and improved bass reproduction without rumbling or distortion. The sound remains natural, with enough detail to make even subtle nuances audible—vocal lines, strings, or electronic bass notes become more palpable without fading into the background.
If you’re considering the Sonus Faber GRAVIS I, we invite you to schedule a listening session and experience how this model can enhance your audio system. Would you like to compare the Sonus Faber GRAVIS I with other subwoofers or discuss a trade-in to help you make the best choice? Feel free to contact us!

The subwoofer provides support, ensuring that the midrange and high frequencies reach you with more impact, grandeur, and emotion. The midrange and high frequencies are carried by the low frequencies. When watching movies, it adds that extra dimension that most people simply can’t do without. A good subwoofer doesn’t vibrate itself, but simply sets the surrounding air in motion, resulting in a tight, undulating movement. Wonderful!

Reviews & awards | Sonus Faber GRAVIS I

Audiodrom

: An in-depth review shows that the Gravis I is ideal for stereo sound. The enclosure is sealed; it features a single active driver, a down-firing driver, a Class AB amplifier (150 W continuous, 250 W peak), and a high-level input via Speakon. In small to medium-sized rooms, it delivers tight, fast, and musical bass—without excess—and integrates well with main speakers. However, in larger rooms or when heavy movie bass frequencies are required, it falls a bit short.

FWD.nl

: According to the Sonetto series review, the Gravis I is “a compact subwoofer with plenty of punch.” The sealed-box design, the floor-facing driver, and the solid walnut finish are praised. It performs remarkably well in its price range, is suitable for smaller rooms, and pairs easily with bookshelf speakers thanks to its LFE and high-level connections.

Son-Vidéo (France)

: This review reveals that the Gravis I delivers a “deep, rich, and well-defined” bass with excellent control in the lower frequency ranges. The woofer’s impact is very well managed, with excellent rhythm and responsiveness, allowing it to remain musical even in pure hi-fi use. Finer details are beautifully preserved, even during loud passages.

Stereo+ (Norway)

: When pairing the Lumina I speakers with the Gravis I subwoofer, the reviewer notes that it is necessary to turn the subwoofer down by a few decibels to keep the vocals clear—this keeps the soundstage open, without the low-frequency response making the treble sound “heavy” or sluggish. When properly configured, the subwoofer delivers both deep bass and enhanced sound from the main speakers—without requiring constant adjustments for each music genre.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
