Questions & Answers

What is the minimum amplifier power required for the Lumina CI?

Lumina CI requires between approximately 30 W and 100 W without distortion to perform optimally.

How should the crossover on the Lumina CI be set up in a surround sound system?

The crossover is set at approximately 2000 Hz, which means that the tweeter operates above this frequency and the woofers operate below it.

What type of connectors does the Lumina CI have for wiring?

Lumina CI is equipped with two pairs of nickel-plated binding posts that allow for bi-wiring and bi-amping.

How sensitive is the Lumina CI, and how does that affect its placement in the room?

The sensitivity is 87 dB SPL at 2.83 V/1 m; the front-mounted reflex ports make positioning near the rear wall less critical.

What is the frequency response of the Lumina CI?

The Lumina CI covers a range from approximately 65 Hz to 24,000 Hz, offering a relatively wide bandwidth thanks to its dual 120 mm woofers.

Under what circumstances does bi-amping make sense with the Lumina CI?

With bi-amping, crossover filters are split; this can increase the clarity of dialogue and improve dynamics in a surround sound setup.

Can the Lumina CI be used in a piece of furniture or cabinet?

Yes; the front-mounted reflex port (“Stealth Reflex Port”) is designed to work inside furniture without significantly compromising sound quality.

What speaker drivers does Lumina CI use?

The Lumina CI uses a 29 mm D.A.D. soft-dome tweeter with viscoelastic baffle decoupling and two 120 mm paper-cone mid-woofers.

What is the impedance of the Lumina CI, and what does that mean for choosing an amplifier?

The nominal impedance is 4 ohms; amplifiers must be capable of operating stably at this lower impedance without overheating or clipping.

How much does a Lumina CI speaker weigh, and what are its dimensions?

Each speaker weighs approximately 7.6 kg and measures 168.6 × 523.6 × 212.7 mm (HxWxD).

Reviews & awards | Sonus Faber LUMINA CI

Sonus Faber Lumina Surround Speaker System Review — Sound & Vision

: The review praises the

Lumina CI center speaker

for its clear dialogue reproduction and power: when seated directly in front of it, it delivers “enough power to produce clear, crisp, and sizzling dialogue, even in the most challenging passages.” However, it suffers from some midrange distortion when standing four feet to the side of the listening position—the drivers interfere with each other, which reduces the naturalness of the dialogue.

HomeTheaterHiFi — Lumina V Amator Speaker and CI Center Review

: The review mentions the
Lumina CI Center
“A low-profile center speaker with a vented enclosure design” equipped with two 120mm woofers and a D.A.D. tweeter. It receives praise for its flexible enclosure design: acoustically tuned for placement on top of or inside a cabinet—not just freestanding—which largely avoids the resonance issues typical of built-in center channels.

Sonus faber website — Lumina CI product page

: The manufacturer emphasizes that the Lumina CI “recreates a detailed voice and clear dialogues to complement the action,” so speech clarity is a key feature. Furthermore, the enclosure is described as suitable for small to medium-sized listening rooms, with a front panel made of multilayer wood and an edge finish available in multiple finishes.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
