Description

Description: Freakuence!
These Italian speakers are truly beautiful! A transparent speaker that evokes the warmth of Sonus Faber’s heritage. They’ve partly moved away from that warmth—which is especially noticeable in the high frequencies—where they go much further than they did a few years ago, resulting in a lot of space and a rich midrange that’s become more neutral. But folks! It’s still a Sonus Faber, with a keen sense of warm, woody tones.
General description
The Sonus Faber Lumina I is a high-quality bookshelf speaker from the Italian brand Sonus Faber, designed to take sound performance to the next level. The Sonus Faber Lumina I combines refined sound with subtle detail, ensuring that every piece of music comes across clearly and naturally. This Sonus Faber Lumina I delivers an open soundstage with a spacious stereo image and dynamics that impress even at moderate volumes.
Thanks to the Sonus Faber Lumina I, you’ll experience sound reproduction rich in nuance: you’ll hear the finest details in instruments and vocals, without the speaker sounding harsh. The balance between bass, midrange, and treble is well-rounded, and the Sonus Faber Lumina I truly shines when playing acoustic music or complex recordings. The sound is warm but not muddy, with a transparency that few speakers in this class can match.
Can’t decide if the Sonus Faber Lumina I is the right choice? Stop by to schedule a listening session and see for yourself how this model fits into your audio system. You can also compare it with other bookshelf models, or would you prefer to discuss a trade-in so you can experience the Sonus Faber Lumina I worry-free?

Questions & Answers

What amplifier power rating is suitable for the Lumina I?

We recommend an amplifier with an output power between 30 W and 100 W that provides uncolored signal processing.

How does bi-wiring or bi-amping work with the Lumina I?

Each speaker has two pairs of inputs (Hi and Mid-Low) that use jumpers; bi-wiring or bi-amping is possible by removing the jumpers and using separate cables.

What is the frequency response of the Lumina I?

The frequency range is approximately 65 Hz to 24,000 Hz.

What is the nominal impedance of this speaker?

The nominal impedance is 4 ohms.

How sensitive is the Lumina I speaker?

Sensitivity is 84 dB SPL at 2.83 V/1 m.

What kinds of connectors are on the back of the Lumina I?

There are four binding-post connectors: two for high frequencies (High) and two for mid-low frequencies (Mid-Low).

How should the speaker be positioned in relation to the walls?

Thanks to the front-facing Reflex port, the speaker is less susceptible to sound attenuation at the rear, so it can be placed closer to a back wall without significant loss of bass response.

What are the dimensions and weight of each Lumina I speaker?

Each speaker measures approximately 280 × 148 × 213 mm (HxWxD) and weighs approximately 4.4 kg.

What materials were used in the finish of the enclosure?

The front panel is made of multilayer wood with wood veneer in various finishes; the sides and top are hand-upholstered with black leather.

What crossover frequency does the Lumina I use?

The crossover point is approximately 2000 Hz, with optimized amplitude and phase response for simultaneous spatial and temporal performance.

You can make a monitor speaker (bookshelf model) sound fantastic. The influence of the amplifier is often underestimated. A monitor won’t sound like a floorstanding speaker… but you can extract an enormous sense of grandeur from it. It’s not just the size that makes audiophiles choose a monitor; the timing of a two-way system also ensures that there are hordes of enthusiasts who wouldn’t even consider a three-way floorstanding speaker. It’s a matter of taste! So please stop by for a comparison.

Reviews & awards | Sonus Faber LUMINA I

What Hi-Fi?

describes the Sonus Faber Lumina I as a compact, stylish “stand-mount” speaker with a surprisingly mature sound; the brand offers a luxurious finish (wood veneer and leather), sounds refined and expressive in the midrange, but has limitations in dynamic range and rhythmic precision.

NOVO Audio & Technology Magazine

praises the Lumina I for its superb vocal reproduction: emotional, beautiful, and distortion-free; in terms of imaging and soundstage, the speaker feels much larger than its dimensions would suggest and has a warm bass foundation despite its small size.

HiFiReport

I was surprised by how well these speakers perform in a room of about 33 m²: a rich soundstage, with instruments beautifully layered and realistic, and impressive texture and detail in both the low and mid ranges without the three frequency ranges becoming disjointed.

Tech Reviews (LbTechReviews)

calls the Lumina I a little wonder that “sounds so good” despite its small size; its appearance—wood veneer on the front, faux leather on the sides—exudes Italian luxury, and the cabinet is compact and elegant without any unnecessary frills.

Ecoustics.com

finds that the speaker outperforms its price range in the upper frequencies: the initial sharpness of the highs evokes a sense of finesse without any harsh edges, and the midrange really comes into its own after about twenty hours of listening; The bass is present but lacks the weight of larger competitors.

Testberichte.de

concludes that the Lumina I is a successful entry into the Hi-Fi segment, with powerful sound and a particularly convincing midrange; the drawbacks are limited precision and dynamics compared to larger or more expensive models.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
