You can make a monitor speaker (bookshelf model) sound fantastic. The influence of the amplifier is often underestimated. A monitor won’t sound like a floorstanding speaker… but you can extract an enormous sense of grandeur from it. It’s not just the size that makes audiophiles choose a monitor; the timing of a two-way system also ensures that there are hordes of enthusiasts who wouldn’t even consider a three-way floorstanding speaker. It’s a matter of taste! So please stop by for a comparison.

Reviews & awards | Sonus Faber LUMINA II

What Hi-Fi?

This review praises the Sonus Faber Lumina II as “an affordable yet stunning standmount speaker” with a sound that is natural, open, and detailed—and a surprisingly luxurious appearance, thanks to authentic Italian craftsmanship, leather, wood veneer, and high-quality finishes. They caution that the low bass feels a bit lightweight and that it lacks true power reserves.

AVForums (Ed Selley)

The Lumina II offers an impressive blend of warmth, tonal accuracy, and surprising drive, with a user-friendly approach to room placement. The midrange and bass are clear, the soundstage is spacious, and the larger cabinet provides more scale than the smaller Lumina I model. The downside is that it’s neither as explosive as some competitors nor entirely convincing at the very lowest frequencies.

TechRadar

The speakers deliver a balanced, natural sound with tonal neutrality, where nothing is exaggerated but everything is clearly articulated—especially in the midrange and high frequencies. They excel in detail reproduction and soundstaging. It’s excellent for those who listen at moderate volumes and want to fully experience more complex music. At higher volumes, it loses some of its quality.

StereoNexus

The Lumina II stays true to Sonus Faber’s reputation for speakers that sound as beautiful as they look; the high frequencies are sweet, airy, and delicate, without any harshness. The midrange and bass deliver warmth, richness, and musical texture, making it ideal for long listening sessions.

HiFi and Music Source (Simon Wilce)

The standmount speakers feature a striking design: luxurious leather, beautiful woodwork, and the Damped Apex Dome tweeter design is impressive. The sound is lively; the clarity in the midrange really stands out. The bass is present but lacks volume and depth compared to larger floor-standing speakers.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
