Questions & Answers

What are the main features of the Lumina V?

The Lumina V is a 3-way floor-standing speaker with a down-firing reflex port, two 6.5-inch woofers, a 150-mm midrange driver, and a 29-mm soft-dome tweeter; the crossover frequencies are set at 260 Hz and 2,600 Hz.

How does Hybrid IFF-Paracross crossover technology work?

This technology combines Interactive Fusion Filtering with Paracross Topology, in which reactive components are placed on the negative rail, which reduces back-EMF and lowers sensitivity to radio frequencies.

What is the purpose of the lute-shaped inner chamber for midrange and high frequencies?

The lute shape provides additional structural rigidity and reduces standing waves within the mid-high chamber, resulting in clearer and less distorted sound in the midrange and high-frequency ranges.

How do you use the Lumina V in stereo or home theater setups?

Connect the speaker to an amplifier via the binding posts; it supports single-wiring, bi-wiring, or bi-amping by using two pairs of terminals.

What amplifier power is recommended for the best results?

An amplifier with 50–300 watts per channel at 4 ohms is recommended to maintain both dynamic range and control over the woofers.

What connectivity options are available?

There are no active or digital inputs: use the 4 nickel-plated binding posts to connect speaker cables; other sources, such as amplifiers, provide the signal.

How does the speaker’s position in the room affect the sound?

Thanks to the down-firing reflex port, the speaker is less sensitive to the distance from the back wall; however, sound quality improves when the speakers are placed a few decimeters away from walls.

What dimensions and weight should be taken into account during installation?

Each speaker is approximately 1049 mm tall, 280 mm wide, and 373 mm deep, and weighs about 22.5 kg; the heavy bass drivers and construction require a sturdy floor and space for damping.

Is the speaker suitable for bi-amping or bi-wiring, and do any adjustments need to be made?

Yes, the Lumina V offers bi-wiring and bi-amping capabilities via two pairs of binding posts; for bi-amping/bi-wiring, the terminal jumpers must be removed.

What frequency range and sensitivity can be expected?

The frequency response is 38 Hz to 24 kHz, with a sensitivity of approximately 89–90 dB SPL at 2.83 V/1 m; good bass reproduction is possible provided there is sufficient power and space.

Reviews & awards | Sonus Faber LUMINA V

HomeTheaterHifi.com

The review notes that the Sonus Faber Lumina V floor-standing speaker “brings much of the design and performance of Sonus Faber’s more expensive speakers to a wider audience,” featuring larger bass drivers, an improved crossover network, and additional cabinet reinforcement. The sound experience is described as “clean highs, a smooth and musical midrange, and solid bass performance,” with a particular emphasis on how even lower-quality recordings sound flattering.

7Review (Noel Keywood)

praises the Lumina V for its “astonishing insight into the midrange, recording ambiance, and atmospheric sound with vocals,” and describes the bass as “enormously powerful”; he further described the speaker as a “serious loudspeaker” with “seductively natural sound” that comes close to tonal accuracy.

Hi-Fi News (Andrew Everard)

notes that the Lumina V Amator is sleek and stylish, with a real wood veneer front baffle available in several attractive finishes. He appreciates the combination of rich bass, an open and appealing midrange, and “sweet yet explicit” highs, along with a presentation that focuses first and foremost on the music, not on the technical aspects.

FutureAudiophile.com

emphasizes that the Lumina V speaker, although the flagship of the entry-level series, is truly designed with attention to details such as a special midrange driver, a trickle-down DAD tweeter, and tangible craftsmanship typically associated with more expensive models. The review cites as potential drawbacks the bass-reflex port on the bottom, which can cause issues with carpet, and the fact that the very low bass (20–40 Hz) is less convincing.

Hifi.nl (Sinan Kökbugur)

lists the strengths as a wide sweet spot, remarkably good reproduction of midrange and low frequencies for this price range, and a “pleasing sound with a touch of warmth and roundness.”

Positive Feedback

notes that the Lumina V delivers strong performance in terms of dynamics, even during loud passages, and particularly praises the high frequencies and transients (such as in cymbals) produced by the D.A.D. tweeter, with only a faint hint of congestion in the upper bass, but nothing that is distracting.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
