Records had been around before but Columbia came 1948 with the long-playing record with a rpm of 33⅓. This had the size of 12″ and was equipped with the micro groove. The shellac era was over, the record falling to smithereens was over, the time of short tracks was over. Instead of 5 minutes, there was now about 22 minutes of music on one side, the sound quality had also improved enormously, anyone who has listened to a shellac record will immediately agree. These 78 rpm records had a frequency range of 100 to 12,000 Hz, the vinyl LP 30 to 16,000 Hz, the signal-to-noise ratio also skyrocketed. Because longer tracks were possible, musicians were no longer forced to hold back. We really enjoy playing records here, it’s a bit of a hassle but you get a lot of peace and quiet in return.

The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
